The knowledge that teaches us how to live on this Earth, how to lead contented lives in the face of obstacles, is spiritual knowledge. That is what we should acquire first.- Amma

Tsunami strikes - what can we do to help?

Natural calamities call for the world family to respond in unison. Our brothers and sisters in the Asian continent are in deep distress as a result of the Tsunami wave. Amma has inspired thousands of us around the globe to outstretch our hands in support and comfort for the affected families.

In Amritapuri and the other parts of Southern India.

The danger is over. But the damage has been done. While no one at Amma's ashram in Kerala, India was injured, the villagers nearby have suffered great losses. Family members are dead and missing. Many of their houses and huts have simply been washed away.

Amma has been personally comforting the villagers. Read more

Web Auction is here again - Support the Tsunami victims

Amma.org is proud to announce the third Annual National Web Auction.

Web auctions in the past have contributed to Amma's Humanitarian Project, "Amrita Kuteeram" - Amma's Housing Project.

The first auction in 2002 spring brought in enough funds to build 21 houses in India for the poor. Net proceeds from last winter's auction contributed to 54 houses. Thanks to everybody, who participated in supporting this special event.

The 2005 Web Auction starts on the auspicious occasion of the New Year, Jan 1st and ends on Jan 14th.

Highlights are Amma's Prasad items including Amma's very first meditation rug, Amma's 50th B-Day Saree, Prasad Silver Padukam, Very very Special Jewelry and Prasad Amma paintings.

Non-prasad items include rare and hard to find antique collector's items, services by devotees etc. We encourage everyone to please visit and bid online between Jan 1st and 14th.

Net proceeds from this auction go to fund housing, food and medical care for the Tsunami victims.

Thanking You for Your Support.

Web Auction Team.

Gems to treasure
Amma says...

In spiritual life we should first learn not to waste time. If we are sincere, we can always find time to meditate, pray and do japa.

We should worship God in the poor and the suffering. Compassion for the world and devotion to God are not two but one; they are two faces of the same truth. A true devotee is one whose legs rush to comfort the suffering ones, whose hands give solace to the sorrowful, whose eyes shed tears of compassion, whose ears listen to the woes of the distressed, and whose words bring relief to the ones in pain.

Compassion is the language that the blind can see and the deaf can hear.

When we are born into this world, we do not bring anything with us. When we leave, we cannot take anything. Should we waste this short life, filling our minds with jealousy, hatred and greed? Only the merit from selfless actions that we have performed will accompany us on our final journey. Therefore, we should turn within ourselves and try to awaken the Self within.

May divine love fill the hearts of all my children. May peace and prosperity prevail in my children's lives.

May we all receive Amma's abundant blessings in the coming New Year.
