how much work still needs to be done in this area. We chose
to commit this donation to the Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund because

Moments
from Amma's November U.S.Tour
It is so interesting to know the different conversations that
happen around Amma. If one notices, Amma not only continuously
gives darshan but also keeps talking to all around her and makes
everyone feel light and happy. It is a wonder how she never
gets tired of it. Like someone who recently went on a tour with
her to Europe commented, "If someone were to talk like
Amma, they would have lost their voice long back!"
"The Europeon tour is the most gruelling one I have seen",
she continued. "In this six week tour, Amma gives darshan
to six to ten thousand people every day and during the time
she travels, she edits translations of her messages, looks at
the songs in the different languages she sings and on reaching
the next country, gets ready for darshan again!"
Amma's words,
"where there is love, there is no effort" ring in
our ears, as a reality that she practices.
The
young and the innocent have an especially charming relationship
with Amma. During this recent November tour, 4 year old Amrita
went upto Amma and started rattling off question after question
to her. Amma said, "Oh, how similar we are; you are a
chatter-box and so am I, you are dark and so am I, your name
is Amrita and so is mine." Amrita was thrilled with that
comparison and was very pleased to have a new buddy who shares
her love for "chatting".
During the U.S.Tour we have retreats with Amma. These are
very
special times -- Amma answers questions, gives plenty of darshan
time, meditates with us, and so on. Amrita asked Amma with
innocent anticipation, "I will be coming for the retreat,
how about you?"
Amma told her, "of course, but I don't have a ride. Can
you take me to the retreat site?"
Amrita thought for a while and said apologetically , "I
guess I am too small to drive!"
Amrita kept watching Amma give darshan while continuing to
chat with her. She told Amma that everyday before going to
sleep she prayed for all the children of the world. Amma asked
her, "Have you done anything to help them also?"
Amrita shook her head and fell silent, looking as if she were
pondering Amma's question.
With million important things going on during darshan, Amma
never fails to answer even the most mundane question from
a child, regardless of how busy she is. If you notice closely,
Amma transforms herself into a child when interacting with
young children. She indeed becomes a four year old when talking
to a four year old.
Amrita then heard Amma talk to a group of children. Amma said,
"If you eat five candies, you can save one for a poor
child. If you buy 4 sets of clothes you can save one for a
poor child. If you have 3 pencils, you can save one for a
poor child."
Amrita's parents remarked that Amma's words had deeply impacted
her mind. Amma conveys values that are usually taken for granted,
in a way that will help us notice and appreciate them, like
candies with attractive wrappers.

Gems

Jesus Christ
Excerpted from " Awaken Children series"
Question:
What is the purpose of the birth of
great souls?
Amma:
Mahatmas or great souls are born for
the good of the world. They
are not attached to anything. Even then, they incarnate on
the earth and act ideally for the good of the world.
It is not for the knowers of the Self that God or a Realized
soul takes birth. God assumes a body to bring the ignorant
to the sacred path. Lord Jesus Christ was crucified. If necessary,
he had the power to reduce his enemies to ashes in an instant.
Yet, he did not do this so that the world can learn what real
renunciation and forgiveness is.
Thought for the Holiday Season
On the sacred day of the birth of Jesus Christ let us remember
what Jesus lived for. Christmas for most of us means celebration
and gifts; let us also remember the love and forgiveness for
which the Lord lived and left his body.
