Training in Tailoring
Nagapattinam
June, 2005
In January 2005, a tailoring program was started to assist many
tsunami survivors, specifically women get back on their feet. Apart
from providing all material needs to join this program, M. A. Math
also offers incentives to beneficiaries upon successful completion
of the program.
What started as a 75 member program In Srayikkad (Kerala) has grown
to over 200 now. Most recently classes are being conducted in Pattanachery,
ITI Camp, Shivashakti, Samanthampettai and Palathadi, near Nagapattinam.
So what did these women do all day.... take a look.

Since June 2005, the M. A. Math runs five tailoring classes in
Nagapattinam. There are about 10 teachers helping these young women.

These free classes cover both theoretical and practical aspects
of tailoring.

These classes include a weekly session on embroidery.

Each class is a two-hour session. Almost all the students
are housewives.

Tests are conducted for students weekly and the teachers
are pleased with the performance of the students.
The students are keen on studying more.
