Circle of Love Letters is a seva program in which, for the past seven years, volunteers have written letters of love, support and
inspiration to community members who are sick, grieving or isolated.
Through these heartfelt and often handmade cards and letters, the
minds of suffering people are soothed and uplifted. Lives are changed.
Here is a message from Varada in Florida to whom we have been
writing for 5 years. She was home bound when we first started to write. She
has been in and out of the hospital. At one point we didn't hear from
her because she had almost died. What a struggle she has had! All
through it her faith in Amma, her love for Amma, stayed strong. She
wrote:
"I want to thank you for all the years
of support I have received. .Mother has blessed me with a job
teaching high school biology
and I
have completed my yoga teacher's training. While I love and appreciate
the support, I think the time has come for me to share the
resources of Circle of Love with others. I think of the years I spent in
isolation in my apartment and I am amazed. The letters I received
were sometimes the only human contact I would have for weeks. Thank you all
for your service. I pray that the children I teach this year
will get the benefits from all the love and service of the people that wrote
to
me in my time of desperation."
"Only Mother knows the deep recesses of our hearts, and when human
love reaches its limits of understanding and compassion, she
is still there -- patiently waiting and encouraging us along the path. Every
human being in my life had given up hope on my health and recovery,
including myself, but not Mother. Thank you again.. Today was
my first day with my students. I shared with them some of the trials of
my health crisis and how grateful and appreciative I am for my health and
life now. How grateful I am to be with them, able to teach
them science and it's applications in daily life, what a gift it is. In
their eyes I saw the blessings of Mothers perseverance with me
and my karma, and I was once again amazed, amazed by her infinite love and
capacity to transform suffering into grace and mercy."
Letter writers sign up for three months and then decide if
they want to continue. Recipients do not have to reply to our letters. Katy's
letter writer was inspired to send the book and was able to
do so but letter writers do not have to send books or gifts,
only letters.
The blessing of this seva for the letter writer is that he or she
learns how to keep his/her own attitude positive, his/her own mind
focused on goodness.
