The Seattle Satsang helps feed the homeless and hungry. This seva is called Mother's Kitchen and is both fun and rewarding. With beaming smiles and genuine appreciation, both those receiving and those offering freshly prepared meals share in the rewards.
Seattle Satsang is blessed to have the opportunity to serve a warm meal on the last Sunday night of the month to some of Seattle's homeless. Many people come together to serve. Currently we are connected with two shelters. One serves men and the other serves women. Both meals are served simultaneously to about 90 people total. The shelters are located in downtown Seattle. We meet at 4:45 to chant the 108 names, bless the food and carpool downtown at 5:00. Set up is at 5:30, dinner is served at 6:00 and we are usually done by 7:00. We usually meet at Visala's home afterward for satsang, spiritual discussion and tea.
Once a month we also gather together at the Lutheran Compass Center to make a pancake breakfast for Seattle's homeless. This meal is served outdoors on the 3rd Sunday of the month. We start cooking at 8:00 A.M and serve at 10:00. We experience such joy cooking together. Please come try it out. All are welcome to participate in Mother's Kitchen. Email is sent out regularly announcing Mother's Kitchen activities for the month. If you feel inclined to join us call Visala 206-784-6374 or email her at vhohlbein@msn.com..
