The Sweet Beginning

Just as the sound of thunder foretells the coming of rain, the sound of laughter and happy voices announced Amma's arrival. Seattle indeed was blessed once again to become Amma's gateway to the U.S.

In no time, Amma was in the center surrounded by a sea of devotees. Her loving glance embraced them all. She asked each one of them to share a joke. As people shared their humor, Amma was laughing with her children, as usual spreading joy and mirth wherever she goes. Thus began Amma's U.S. tour for the 18th year in succession.

Several local devotees spent many hours planning and coordinating Amma's programs here. Having Amma's presence amongst them was their priceless gift.

Owners of Waterfront Bakery heard about Amma and Her selfless service to humanity. The two sisters were so touched and inspired by Amma's simple yet profound approach to service, that they baked, packaged, and delivered 1,200 delicious goodies to Amma's Snackshop. All proceeds from the sale of the baked goods go to Amma's numerous charities. The sister team had never met Amma before and had not planned to receive Darshan that day. They simply wanted to give. However, after they delivered the sweets to the hall, curiosity about Amma and Her hugs won out and they went for Darshan. Both were deeply moved by the experience; so much so that they have decided to return for Devi Bhava.

Others in the community were also motivated to serve Amma in some way. A professional event coordinator volunteered to manage and coordinate all of the public program parking. Another local business provided wall panels for the children's play area, with free delivery and pick-up. These people, like the local bakers, had never met Amma before, but were inspired to serve, expecting nothing in return.

It felt like a chain reaction, with more and more people coming forward to share whatever they had with Amma's children gathered here in Seattle from across the country.
