Amma in Albuquerque

Amma started her program here in Albuquerque on Monday, the morning
of June 27th. Long before the program started, the hallway was filled
with people standing in line to get into the program hall. In many
ways, the Albuquerque and nearby Santa Fe area, where another of
Amma’s ashrams is situated, is considered as a spiritual vortex
of many cultures. For centuries, long before the white settlers
came to the place, Native Americans have resided here revering Nature
as their mother. Today that spirit still lives on in this land,
giving the place a unique subtle energy.
Many dignitaries came to the program to express their appreciation
of Amma’s tremendous service to the community. Serving the
community in their own way, these were people who recognized Amma
not only for her humanitarian work, but her compassionate selflessness
and spiritual leadership as well.
Senator Shannon Robinson, who has served the State Senate as a
senator for 16 years, was one of the important dignitaries who came
to see Amma today. Although he was seeing Amma for the first time,
as he entered the stage and garlanded Amma, he sought her blessing.
Later he spoke to Amma regarding the education system in Albuquerque
and possibly developing an exchange education program between the
State of New Mexico and Amrita University.
Another honored guest from the Mayor’s office who came for
Amma’s darshan today was Chief Administrative Officer to the
City of Albuquerque, James B. Lewis. Mr. Lewis addressed the audience
and expressed his gratitude and pride to be in Amma’s presence.
He requested that Amma pray for the Mayor and other elected city
officials, that they may execute their jobs effectively.
Many other honored guests have also visited and sought Amma’s
blessings in the past two days.
Diane Granito, director of The Heart Gallery was one of the guests.
The Heart Gallery is a photography show of children put up to be
adopted by the state of New Mexico.
Another honored guest was Nancy Nielsen, founder of the prominent
website “Santa Fe Buzz”. Jade Gordon, yet another guest
who had come to get Amma’s darshan, works as an art curator
and community activist and has worked to establish children’s
art camps for the economically disadvantaged, taught by minority
artists.
Pat French and Alexis Girard, two other notable guests garlanded
Amma and sought her blessings. Pat French along with her husband
Michael currently runs the largest real estate company in Santa
Fe.
Last, but not the least, educators and community leaders Mahbound
and Tara Andrea went up to Amma on the dais. Mentor teachers of
the Dances of Universal Peace, Tara and Mahbound have helped teach
peace through the arts.
These honored guests came to see Amma and get her blessings and
to show their gratitude for her humanitarian work and compassionate
service – in the local community as well as throughout the
world. When leaders in the community honor Amma and express their
gratitude for her service, Amma’s mission of propagating global
peace and harmony goes forward one more step in the direction of
Amma's vision- "Everyone in the world should be able to sleep
without fear, at least for one night. Everyone should be able to
eat to his or her fill, at least for one day. There should be at
least one day when hospitals see no one admitted due to violence.
By doing selfless service for at least one day, everyone—from
little children to the very elderly—should help raise money
for the poor and needy—even if by making toys. It is Amma’s
prayer that at least this small dream be realized."
